Perhaps you’d like to stay at The Delavey?

New project klaxon! 🎺

It’s a fraught time, to be sure. But art can be a balm, let’s agree. So, after quite a few years in the making, I’m happy to say a delightful collaboration of mine is finally seeing the light of day. And so we present for your listening pleasure, an album called Storied, by The Delavey.

So who, what, why?

The Delavey* is a duo. Up at the mic? That’s UK-based poet Guy Sangster Adams, a man with a wonderful way of telling a story. On the instruments and fader action, that’s me. We originally met about a decade ago and as I heard him reading some of his work in public, I could begin to hear music underneath, propelling things along.

What began as ‘is this an EP?’ soon turned into ‘this should be an LP!’ and thus Storied came about.

Twelve tales that channel lost love and missing pages, sixties pop gods and the suffocations of the British seaside. It’s a sophisticated journey, so naturellement, Parisian misadventure also makes an appearance. It’s not poetry and it’s not pop, but somehow it’s both, just the same.

So come join this “lyrical art pop adventure”. We hope you enjoy it!

*Oh, the name?

Somehow this made-up word sounded like a hotel, a pile of fading deco, perhaps overlooking the sea. Hotels are places full of elliptical purpose. Artificial, overthought interiors overeager to impress with yesterday’s fabrics and patterns. Rooms for regrets and dreaming. And so on. Also, in French the word dévaler means a brutal descent, so there’s that ;-)

The Delavey – it’s a band not a hotel (but then in today’s music industry, maybe we should open one?).
