Behind, around and somehow before the notes

Just arrived at the quiet little Rhineland town of Monheim, for this year’s Triennale – a festival of experimental and brave musical collaborations. (We can also but hope that the musical fearlessness will pierce the rather insistent heatwave that rendered this little town so comatose yesterday 🥵).

I contributed an interview with one of its signature artists, the American saxophonist and composer, Darius Jones. It’s always nice to see how well this festival realises and produces everything. Just got my hard copy of the second Monheim Papers. It’s a great companion to what will be a rich and eclectic series of improvisational and prepared performances by some of the best players in the world.

You can read the Papers’ content online of course too: https://monheim-triennale.de/en/papers
