If the champagne could speak
In 2022 I was asked by the brilliantly creative team at experiential marketers, Meredith Collective - to write a poem about champagne. A perfectly typical commission, of course.
In truth this just one tiny part of a massive art-deco experiential installation inside The Savoy hotel’s ground floor Christmas campaign. The team wanted a poem extolling the potent virtues of France’s most popular export so I quickly set to work. Their mood board of #inspo was suitably drenched in Aubrey Beardsley engravings and period wallpaper designs, so the piece came together fairly quickly.
I’m not a poet by trade (ho ho), so I practiced reading the piece aloud as I wrote it, editing down to get the rhythm and tone just right. To pitch it back to them, I read it over a bit of tinkly French piano music. (Great tip for copywriters - speak it into the air, give it a bit of am dram flair, and see if it sounds delectable or just deranged.) A few samples below, and photos from the poem floating mid-air, mid-display.
